Dr. Arsene Bien-Aime Jr. is a trombonist and educator currently residing in the Austin metropolitan area.
From early childhood, the music from video game soundtracks, movies, tv shows, and backseat listening to genres such as hip-hop, R&B, rap, funk, compas-direct, zouk, reggae, and meringue on car rides have shaped the person and musician he is.
Since high school, Dr. Bien-Aime has numerous accomplishments to his name, from being named best band musician and playing in the Maryland All-State Senior Band, to being recognized as an Outstanding Freshman Instrumentalist and Outstanding Instrumentalist twice during his undergrad, and winning the 2023 Emory Remington Trombone Choir Competition with the University of Texas at Austin Trombone Choir.
Other notable performances and accolades include the HBCU National Band Directors’ Consortium, the 2019 University of Delaware Trombone Day Regional Collegiate Choir, the 2019 National Intercollegiate Band hosted by Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, and the 2019 Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, where the Morgan State Marching Band was the featured band. Dr. Bien-Aime completed a four-week residency in Zürich, Switzerland, playing in masterclasses with members of the trombone section of the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and Zürich Opera Orchestra, performed at the FILUNI book fair in Mexico City, Mexico, was a semifinalist in the 2023 Butler School of Music’s Concerto Competition, and has performed at prestigious music conventions events such as the American Trombone Workshop, International Trombone Festival, and Texas Music Educators Association Convention. He is also a performer on tracks in the album, The Sword of Orion by the University of Texas at Austin Trombone Choir, released in 2026.
His principal instructors during his collegiate education were Milton Aldana and Dr. Nathaniel Brickens.
