Mr. Arsene Bien-Aime Jr., a trombonist and educator residing in the Austin metropolitan area, is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at The University of Texas at Austin.
Arsene’s musical journey began in high school, where he consistently received top ratings for Solo and Ensemble adjudication at both the county and state levels. During his final two years, he served as the second chair in his school district’s All-County band and was selected to the prestigious Maryland All-State Senior Band in 2016.
Following his high school education, Arsene continued his studies at Morgan State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2020. Throughout his time at Morgan State, he received numerous accolades from his faculty, including the prestigious Outstanding Freshman Instrumentalist and Outstanding Instrumentalist awards twice. Additionally, he has had the privilege of performing at esteemed events such as the HBCU National Band Directors’ Consortium, the 2019 National Intercollegiate Band held at Oklahoma State University, and the 2019 Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, where the Morgan State Marching Band, the featured and premier band in the parade, showcased its exceptional talent.
Following his graduation from Morgan State University, Arsene enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin to pursue graduate studies. In the fall of 2022, he completed his Master of Music in Trombone Performance. The following semester, he embarked on his Doctor of Musical Arts in Trombone Performance program. Throughout these post-baccalaureate degrees, Arsene was a member of the top ensembles at UT, including the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Jerry Junkin and the Trombone Choir. Notably, the Trombone Choir won the 2023 ITA Emory Remington Trombone Choir Competition under the direction of Dr. Nathaniel Brickens. Arsene also secured a semifinalist spot in the school’s Concerto Competition and has performed at prestigious events such as the American Trombone Workshop, the International Trombone Festival, and the Texas Music Educators Association Convention. His principal instructors during his collegiate education were Milton Aldana and Dr. Nathaniel Brickens.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Arsene is an active private instructor and freelancer. He performs at weddings, church services, and has recorded for upcoming album and band projects. Additionally, he occasionally collaborates with the Austin Civic Orchestra.
